It is a member of the Phyllostachys genus, known for its fast growth, attractive appearance, and versatility. This clumping bamboo species typically reaches heights of 7 to 8 meters, with culms that can grow up to 3 to 5 cm in diameter, making it a medium-sized bamboo suitable for a variety of landscape and construction uses.

The culms also have a blueish or bluish-green tint when young, giving the plant an exotic, dramatic appearance. The culms are strong and flexible, making this bamboo suitable for use in a variety of applications, including furniture making, landscaping, and crafts.
