Bambusa chungii 'Barbellata', commonly known as "Blue Bamboo," is an elegant, tropical clumping bamboo species native to southern China. Renowned for its striking powdery blue culms, this variety is a standout in ornamental landscaping. The culms, which grow to a height of 8 to 10 meters and measure about 2 to 4 cm in diameter, have a smooth, waxy surface that enhances their bluish sheen. Over time, the culms mature to a soft green or pale yellow, creating a dynamic visual appeal in gardens and landscapes.

This bamboo is highly prized for its ornamental value, often used as a focal point in high-end landscaping, privacy screens, or decorative hedges. Its upright growth habit and relatively thin-walled culms make it easy to manage, while its dense foliage provides ample shade and wind resistance. Beyond aesthetics, Bambusa chungii 'Barbellata' is also valued for light construction and crafting, where its straight and smooth culms are used to make decorative items, small furniture, and garden trellises. Its adaptability to various soil types, coupled with its drought tolerance, makes it a popular choice for sustainable landscaping and erosion control projects.
